Bridge Builders Volunteer Program

The Bridge Builders Volunteer Program with Koinonia Community Solutions invites dedicated community members to “be the bridge” in creating opportunity and equity across eastern North Carolina. Rooted in the organization’s mission of building bridges of opportunity to the underserved, this volunteer initiative empowers individuals to make a tangible impact in education, economic empowerment, and reentry support.

Why It Matters
Volunteers in the Bridge Builders program help strengthen communities by supporting programs that uplift children, adults, and families — reflecting KCS’s belief that no person should be left behind.

Where Volunteers Can Get Involved

Education Support

Bridge Builders support youth enrichment and academic success through activities such as tutoring, mentoring, after-school assistance, and helping with programs like KidsEXCEL, Max Factor Leadership Institute and StrongHER. Volunteers contribute to safe, engaging learning environments and help youth build confidence and skills.

Economic Empowerment Activities

Volunteers assist with job readiness and workforce development efforts — including helping with resume workshops, soft-skills training, job fairs, and career navigation. Your time can help increase access to employment pathways and strengthen participants’ confidence and professional capabilities.

Reentry Support

Through involvement with reentry initiatives like the A New Direction Local Reentry Council (ANDLRC), volunteers help individuals transitioning back into the community after incarceration. This can include case support, resource connection, coaching, and encouragement that help participants overcome barriers to stability and success.
